BRUSSELS, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Mission to the European Union (EU) said Monday that China is firmly opposed to the EU's interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs and practising double standards on the law-based exercise of duties by Hong Kong police.
China has no intention to fight a "diplomatic war" with the United States as it will only hurt the interests of the two peoples even more, Wang said.
He made the remarks after visiting U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo claimed at a joint press briefing here that the United States, a country with a poor track record of respecting other nations' sovereignty, stood "prepared to support" the Czech people if the latter were bullied by others.
"We do have disputes, like the border disputes with India, and some territorial disputes in the South China Sea," he said, adding that "but on the whole, all the countries in our region want to develop mutually beneficial relations. I don't think any one of them wants to see any escalation of tension. This is also the reality."

During his trip to Shanghai, Branstad reportedly said that China's medical supplies to the United States had saved many lives. He also expressed the hope for further exchanges and cooperation with China to jointly overcome the impact of the epidemic.
Closing such a consulate-general that bears both historical and current significance is closing a window for exchange and mutual understanding between the Chinese and Americans, Wang said.
Such moves naturally gain little support, said Wang.
