Noting that China-U.S. relations are now faced with a new international and domestic environment, Yang said that to safeguard and stabilize China-U.S. ties against this backdrop, the right attitude is to respect history, keep pace with the times and build on past achievements, and not to distort and deny history, or turn back the wheel of history.
China and the United States now account for over one-third of global economic output and over 50 percent of global growth. Bilateral trade volume has increased by over 250 times since the early days of diplomatic ties and takes up one-fifth of the global total. Two-way investment has jumped from almost zero to nearly 240 billion U.S. dollars, and annual two-way visits by the two peoples have reached 5 million.
But facts speak louder than words. No countries in Africa or Latin America have complained about falling into such a "debt trap" because of their cooperation with China. That's why Robert Zoellick, the former World Bank president, has said: "Those who see China only as a disruptor are misleading themselves. Frankly, self-deception is very dangerous in diplomacy."
"We do have disputes, like the border disputes with India, and some territorial disputes in the South China Sea," he said, adding that "but on the whole, all the countries in our region want to develop mutually beneficial relations. I don't think any one of them wants to see any escalation of tension. This is also the reality."
"The Chinese people are also very much shocked. They feel very disappointed about what is happening in this country towards China," said Cui. "There's a rising anger among the Chinese public."
"It has gone extreme to pursue unilateralism and bullying, even at the cost of international responsibilities and multilateral rules," Wang told Xinhua in an exclusive interview.
The United States must abandon its fantasy of remodeling China to U.S. needs, stop its meddling in China's internal affairs, and stop its irrational cracking down on China's legitimate rights and interests. Enditem
BEIJING, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- When talking about his work at the Central Intelligence Agency, the former director Mike Pompeo has never been that honest: "We lied, we cheated, we stole ... It reminds you of the glory of the American experiment."
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, in his recent fact-twisting speech at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library, claimed that America's policy of engagement with China is wrong and has failed, in a bid to deny the tremendous benefits the two sides have jointly delivered to their peoples and the rest of the world, and legitimize his call to form an anti-China alliance.
BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Foreign political party leaders have sent messages to the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, opposing the plot of some U.S. politicians who fabricated accusations to smear China and escalated provocations against China to contain its development.
Slovenia and the United States signed a so-called joint declaration on security of 5G networks during Pompeo's visit. On the issue of the 5G security, the United States "violates the principles of the market economy and abuses the concept of national security to implement discriminatory and exclusive policies," the Embassy's statement said, noting that it has made "presumptions of guilt" against Chinese companies without being able to provide any evidence, and it "uses the power of the state machine to suppress Chinese companies."
