Zhao made the remarks at a press briefing when asked to make comment on U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, who said during his visit to Taiwan that China "chose not to" warn the world about COVID-19 and betrayed the cooperative spirit needed for global health.
"We urge the United States to stop acting with arrogance and prejudice, but enter into constructive dialogue with us on an equal footing," Wang said.
During an exclusive interview with Xinhua, Wang said the United States has launched a global campaign against a private Chinese company without any solid evidence, calling the move a textbook example of bullying.
He made the remarks in a signed article titled "Respect History, Look to the Future and Firmly Safeguard and Stabilize China-U.S. Relations," which was published Friday.
China has no intention to fight a "diplomatic war" with the U.S. side as it will only hurt the interests of the two peoples even more, Wang said.
"It is the epitome of double standards that the Five Eyes chose to interpret the HKSAR government's decision in a twisted political way," Zhao said.
An epidemic, knowing no boundaries or races, is the common enemy of humanity. Solidarity and cooperation can be the most powerful weapons against the virus, and the most urgent task is to save lives, according to Wang.
